DISCONTINUOUS RECEPTION OPERATIONS FOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18154672 titled 'DISCONTINUOUS RECEPTION OPERATIONS FOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications. It focuses on a user equipment (UE) that is part of a group of UEs. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • A UE receives traffic information, including a transmission schedule, from a group member UE.
  • Based on the transmission schedule, the UE determines a discontinuous reception configuration for the group of UEs.
  • The discontinuous reception configuration includes a schedule for when the group of UEs should be in a discontinuous reception mode.
  • The UE then transmits the discontinuous reception configuration to the group of UEs.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless communication systems that involve groups of user equipment.
  • Networks where UEs need to coordinate their reception schedules for efficient use of resources.
  • Situations where UEs need to conserve power by periodically entering a discontinuous reception mode.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • In wireless communication systems with groups of UEs, it can be challenging to coordinate their reception schedules.
  • Without a proper schedule, UEs may experience interference or inefficient use of resources.
  • Power consumption can be high if UEs do not have a mechanism to periodically enter a discontinuous reception mode.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved coordination and efficiency in wireless communication systems with groups of UEs.
  • Reduced interference and better utilization of resources.
  • Power savings by allowing UEs to enter a discontinuous reception mode when not actively receiving data.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) of a group of UEs may receive, from a group member of the group of UEs, traffic information including a transmission schedule associated with traffic of the group member UE. The UE may determine a discontinuous reception configuration for the group of UEs based at least in part on the transmission schedule. The discontinuous reception configuration may include a discontinuous reception schedule for the group of UEs. The UE may transmit, to the group of UEs, the discontinuous reception configuration.
