DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18152640 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device that includes display pixels and light-sensing pixels arranged in a display area. It also includes light-sensing scan lines, a display scan driver, a blood-pressure detecting circuit, and a display driving circuit.

  • The display device has display pixels and light-sensing pixels arranged in a display area.
  • Light-sensing scan lines are divided into at least two horizontal lines and connected to light-sensing pixels.
  • A display scan driver supplies display scan signals to display pixels connected to each horizontal line.
  • A blood-pressure detecting circuit measures a user's blood pressure using light-sensing signals input through the light-sensing pixels.
  • A display driving circuit controls the timing of display scan signals and sensing scan signals.

Potential Applications

  • Medical devices: The blood-pressure detecting circuit can be used in medical devices for monitoring a user's blood pressure.
  • Wearable devices: The display device can be integrated into wearable devices, such as smartwatches, to provide blood pressure monitoring functionality.
  • Health and fitness tracking: The display device can be used in health and fitness tracking devices to measure blood pressure and provide real-time feedback to users.

Problems Solved

  • Convenient blood pressure monitoring: The display device allows for easy and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring without the need for additional sensors or devices.
  • Integration into existing devices: The display device can be integrated into various devices, such as wearable devices, without significant modifications or additional components.
  • Real-time feedback: The display device provides real-time blood pressure measurements, allowing users to monitor their health and make informed decisions.

Benefits

  • Simplified design: The display device combines display and blood pressure monitoring functionalities in a single device, reducing the need for separate components.
  • Non-invasive measurement: The blood pressure is measured using light-sensing signals, eliminating the need for traditional cuff-based methods.
  • Real-time monitoring: The display device provides real-time blood pressure measurements, allowing users to track their health and make necessary adjustments.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes display pixels arranged in a display area of a display panel, light-sensing pixels arranged alternately with the display pixels in the display area, light-sensing scan lines, each divided into at least two horizontal lines disposed adjacent to each other and connected to light-sensing pixels disposed proximate to the at least two horizontal lines, a display scan driver configured to sequentially supply display scan signals to display pixels connected to each horizontal line through display scan lines corresponding to each horizontal line, a blood-pressure detecting circuit configured to measure a user's blood pressure using light-sensing signals input through the light-sensing pixels, and a display driving circuit configured to control a timing at which the display scan signals are supplied to the display scan lines and a timing at which sensing scan signals are supplied to the light-sensing scan lines.
