TAB VISIBILITY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18151942 titled 'TAB VISIBILITY

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a computing device that includes an application and a window manager. The application creates a tab in a window's context, while the window manager registers the tab with a UI element registry.

  • The computing device can receive a portion of a second UI element registry from another computing device's window manager over a network.
  • The received portion of the second UI element registry identifies a remote tab that was previously registered with the secondary window manager.
  • The window manager then displays a graphical arrangement of the local tab and the remote tab on the device's display.

Potential Applications

  • Collaborative workspaces where multiple users can access and interact with tabs from different devices.
  • Remote desktop applications where users can access and control tabs from a different computer.
  • Multi-device synchronization where tabs can be seamlessly transferred between devices.

Problems Solved

  • Facilitates the sharing and synchronization of tabs between different computing devices.
  • Allows users to access and interact with tabs from remote devices, enhancing collaboration and productivity.
  • Simplifies the management and organization of tabs across multiple devices.

Benefits

  • Improved productivity and efficiency by enabling seamless tab sharing and synchronization.
  • Enhanced collaboration and teamwork by allowing users to access and interact with tabs from different devices.
  • Simplified tab management and organization across multiple computing devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

According to one general aspect, a computing device may include an application configured to create a tab in a context of a window, and a window manager configured to register the tab with a first UI element registry. The window manager may be configured to receive, over a network, at least a portion of a second UI element registry from a secondary window manager of a secondary computing device. The portion of the second UI element registry may identify a remote tab previously registered with the secondary window manager. The window manager may be configured to cause a display to provide a graphical arrangement of the tab and the remote tab.
