DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18151655 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device that includes a display area divided into two pixel areas with different subpixel arrangements. The device also includes a panel driver and a data processor.

  • The display area has a first pixel area with pixels arranged in a first structure and a second pixel area with pixels arranged in a second structure.
  • The panel driver provides a driving signal to the display area.
  • The data processor converts first image data to second image data.
  • The first image data corresponds to the boundary subpixel of a first boundary pixel adjacent to the second pixel area.
  • The second image data corresponds to the boundary subpixel of a second boundary pixel adjacent to the first boundary pixel.
  • The data processor determines the boundary subpixels of the first and second boundary pixels based on boundary types indicating positional relationships between them.

Potential Applications

  • This display device can be used in various electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, televisions, and computer monitors.
  • It can enhance the visual quality and resolution of images displayed on the screen.

Problems Solved

  • The display device solves the problem of improving image quality by utilizing different subpixel arrangements in different pixel areas.
  • It addresses the issue of maintaining consistent image quality across the entire display area.

Benefits

  • The device provides improved image quality and resolution by utilizing different subpixel arrangements.
  • It allows for more accurate rendering of images by converting first image data to second image data.
  • The display device ensures consistent image quality by determining the boundary subpixels based on positional relationships between pixels.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes a display area including a first pixel area, in which pixels including subpixels of a first arrangement structure are disposed, and a second pixel area, in which pixels including subpixels of a second arrangement structure are disposed, a panel driver which provides a driving signal to the display area, and a data processor which converts first image data to second image data, where the first image data corresponds to the boundary subpixel of a first boundary pixel located adjacent to the second pixel area, among the pixels of the first pixel area, and the boundary subpixel of a second boundary pixel adjacent to the first boundary pixel, among the pixels of the second pixel area. The data processor determines the boundary subpixels of the first and second boundary pixels based on boundary types indicating positional relationships between the first and second boundary pixels.
