ELECTRONIC DEVICE HAVING A PLURALITY OF LENSES AND CONTROLLING METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18150010 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE HAVING A PLURALITY OF LENSES AND CONTROLLING METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an electronic device and method for image capturing using multiple cameras. Here are the key points:

  • The electronic device includes multiple cameras, a display, and a processor.
  • The application supports image capturing using the multiple cameras.
  • The device obtains a first image with a first field of view from a first camera.
  • The first image is displayed as a preview on the display with a first magnification.
  • The preview can be changed to include at least one object identified in the first image based on its movement.
  • The magnification for image capturing can be changed to a second magnification if the object is positioned in a designated region of the first field of view.
  • The device obtains a second image with a second field of view from a second camera, based on the first field of view, second field of view, and position of the object.
  • At least a part of the second image is displayed as the preview on the display with the second magnification.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Photography and videography devices with enhanced zoom capabilities.
  • Surveillance systems with intelligent object tracking and zooming.
  • Augmented reality applications with real-time object identification and zooming.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Limited zoom capabilities of traditional cameras.
  • Difficulty in tracking and capturing moving objects.
  • Inability to adjust the magnification dynamically based on object position.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved image capturing capabilities with multiple cameras and intelligent object tracking.
  • Enhanced zoom functionality for capturing distant objects.
  • Real-time preview with adjustable magnification for better composition and focus.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device, and method performed by the electronic device, is provided. The electronic device includes multiple cameras, a display, and at least one processor configured to execute an application supporting image capturing using the multiple cameras, obtain a first image having a first field of view via a first camera among the multiple cameras, display a preview using the first image on the display in a state where a magnification for the image capturing is configured to be a first magnification, change the preview using the first image, displayed on the display, to include at least one object identified in the first image according to a movement of the at least one object, change the magnification for the image capturing to a second magnification, based on the at least one object being positioned in a designated region of the first field of view, obtain a second image having a second field of view via a second camera among the multiple cameras, the second magnification being determined based on the first field of view, the second field of view, and a position of the at least one object in the first field of view, and display at least a part of the second image on the display as the preview, in a state in which the magnification for the image capturing is configured to be the second magnification.
