USER EQUIPMENT HANDOVER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18145570 titled 'USER EQUIPMENT HANDOVER

Simplified Explanation

The patent application abstract describes a method of handover at a user equipment (UE) involving conditional handover configurations between network entities (NEs).

  • The method involves receiving a conditional handover configuration from a first NE associated with a second NE.
  • The UE receives an indication from the first NE to execute the conditional handover.
  • Handover is initiated from the first NE to the second NE based on the satisfaction of the specified condition.
  • Conditions for handover may include receiving an indication or specific channel conditions.
  • Multiple UEs can receive conditional handover configurations from an NE, each with conditions, and indications are sent to execute the handover.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in mobile networks to optimize handover processes between network entities, improving network efficiency and user experience.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient handover management between network entities. 2. Enhancing network performance and reliability during handover transitions.

Benefits

1. Improved network reliability and performance. 2. Enhanced user experience with seamless handover processes. 3. Optimal resource utilization in mobile networks.

Potential Commercial Applications

"Optimizing Handover Processes in Mobile Networks: Enhancing Network Efficiency and User Experience"

Possible Prior Art

Prior art may include existing methods of handover management in mobile networks, such as traditional handover procedures between network entities.

Unanswered Questions

How does this method impact battery life on UEs during handover processes?

The patent abstract does not address the potential impact of this method on the battery life of user equipment. Further research or testing may be needed to determine the effects.

What are the security implications of executing conditional handovers in mobile networks?

The abstract does not mention any security considerations related to conditional handovers. It would be important to investigate potential security vulnerabilities or risks associated with this method.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method of handover at a user equipment (UE) is provided comprising receiving, from a first network entity (NE), a configuration for conditional handover associated with a second NE. The configuration includes at least one condition. An indication is received by the UE from the first NE to execute the conditional handover. Handover is initiated from the first NE to the second NE subject to the condition being satisfied. The condition may be that the indication is received or it may be a channel condition or both. At an NE, configurations for conditional handover are sent to multiple UEs, each configuration associated with a target NE and each including at least one condition, and an indication is sent to at least one UE to execute conditional handover.
