APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PERFORMING IMAGE AUTHENTICATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18143306 titled 'APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PERFORMING IMAGE AUTHENTICATION

Simplified Explanation

An electronic device is described in this patent application that can identify fake pixels in an image processed by an image processor using artificial intelligence (AI) technology and/or an AI camera module for image authentication. The device performs the following functions:

  • Obtains an input image.
  • Obtains a processed image of the input image using an AI-based model.
  • Generates authentication metadata indicating fake pixels generated by the AI-based model.
  • Stores the authentication metadata along with the processed image in memory.
  • Outputs the processed image with an indication of the fake pixels.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Image authentication: The device can be used to verify the authenticity of images by identifying and indicating fake pixels generated by AI-based image processing.
  • Forensic analysis: The technology can assist in forensic investigations by detecting manipulated or tampered images.
  • Content moderation: Online platforms can utilize this technology to identify and flag images that contain fake or manipulated content.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Detection of fake pixels: The device addresses the challenge of identifying fake pixels generated by AI-based image processing, which can be used to create deceptive or misleading images.
  • Image manipulation detection: The technology helps in detecting image manipulation, which is crucial in various fields such as journalism, forensics, and content moderation.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced image authentication: The device improves the accuracy and reliability of image authentication by identifying and indicating fake pixels.
  • Time and cost savings: Automated detection of fake pixels reduces the need for manual inspection and analysis, saving time and resources.
  • Trustworthy image analysis: The technology ensures the integrity of images used for analysis or decision-making purposes by identifying potential manipulations.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device may be provided to identify fake pixels from an image that is processed via an image processor that uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology and/or an AI camera module to perform image authentication. The electronic device may be configured to: obtain an input image; obtain a processed image of the input image via AI-based model; generate authentication metadata that indicates fake pixels that have been generated by the AI-based model; store the authentication metadata in association with the processed image in the at least one memory; and output the processed image with an indication of the fake pixels.
