DISPLAY APPARATUS FOR PROVIDING 3D IMAGE AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18140291 titled 'DISPLAY APPARATUS FOR PROVIDING 3D IMAGE AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The display apparatus described in the patent application includes a 3D display panel with a visual field separator on its front surface. It also includes an enhance display positioned at a first angle with respect to the 3D display, and a mirror panel positioned at a second angle between the 3D display and the enhance display. The apparatus is controlled by at least one processor that can operate in both a 3D image provision mode and a 2D image provision mode.

In the 3D image provision mode, the processor displays an input image on the enhance display, creates a virtual image in front of the 3D display's front surface, and displays a multiview image corresponding to the input image on the 3D display. In the 2D image provision mode, the processor displays the input image on the enhance display, creates a virtual image in front of the 3D display's front surface, and turns off the 3D display.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Entertainment industry: This display apparatus can enhance the viewing experience of 3D content by providing a multiview image on the 3D display, creating a more immersive and realistic visual experience.
  • Virtual reality (VR): The ability to create virtual images in front of the display panel can be utilized in VR applications, allowing users to interact with virtual objects in a more realistic manner.
  • Advertising and marketing: The enhanced display and virtual image capabilities can be used to create eye-catching and engaging advertisements, attracting more attention from viewers.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Limited viewing angles: The visual field separator and mirror panel help to expand the viewing angles of the 3D display, allowing multiple viewers to see the 3D content without experiencing distortion or loss of image quality.
  • Simultaneous 2D and 3D display: The ability to switch between 2D and 3D image provision modes provides flexibility for different content types and user preferences, accommodating both traditional 2D content and immersive 3D content.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced visual experience: The combination of the 3D display, enhance display, and virtual image capabilities creates a more immersive and realistic visual experience for viewers.
  • Versatility: The ability to switch between 2D and 3D modes allows for a wide range of content to be displayed on the apparatus, catering to different preferences and applications.
  • Improved viewing angles: The visual field separator and mirror panel expand the viewing angles of the 3D display, ensuring that viewers can see the content clearly from various positions.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display apparatus includes a three dimensional (3D) display including a display panel, and a visual field separator provided on a front surface of the display panel, an enhance display provided at a first angle with respect to the 3D display, a mirror panel provided at a second angle with respect to the 3D display and provided between the 3D display and the enhance display, and at least one processor configured to operate in a 3D image provision mode and operate a two dimensional (2D) image provision mode. The at least one processor is configured to, in the 3D image provision mode, display an input image on the enhance display, provide a virtual image at a position in front of the front surface of the 3D display, and display a multiview image corresponding to the input image on the 3D display. The at least one processor is configured to, in the 2D image provision mode, display the input image on the enhance display, provide the virtual image at a position in front of the front surface of the 3D display, and turn off the 3D display.
