MAGNETIC DISK DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18119636 titled 'MAGNETIC DISK DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a magnetic disk device with heaters to adjust the flying height of the write and read heads, controlled by a controller based on the electric resistance values of the heaters.

  • Write head adjusts flying height for writing data to the magnetic disk.
  • Read head adjusts flying height for reading data from the magnetic disk.
  • First heater adjusts flying height of the write head.
  • Second heater adjusts flying height of the read head.
  • Controller controls powers supplied to the heaters based on their electric resistance values.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in the development of high-performance magnetic disk drives for data storage applications.

Problems Solved

This technology helps in maintaining optimal flying heights of the write and read heads, ensuring accurate reading and writing of data on the magnetic disk.

Benefits

- Improved data storage reliability. - Enhanced data transfer speeds. - Extended lifespan of the magnetic disk device.

Potential Commercial Applications

"Enhancing Data Storage Performance with Magnetic Disk Device Heaters"

Possible Prior Art

Original Abstract Submitted

According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a magnetic disk, a magnetic head including a write head which writes data to the magnetic disk, a read head which reads data from the magnetic disk, a first heater which adjusts a flying height of the write head, a second heater which adjusts a flying height of the read head and a controller which controls powers supplied to the first heater and the second heat, and controls a power value of the power supplied to the first heater according to a ratio between an electric resistance value of the first heater and an electric resistance value of the second heater.
