UWB ANTENNA AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18106245 titled 'UWB ANTENNA AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING SAME

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an ultra-wide band (UWB) antenna design that includes a dielectric substrate and two conductive layers. The first conductive layer has three patch antennae that can receive UWB signals, with the second and third patch antennae positioned in specific directions relative to the first patch antenna. The first conductive layer also has transmission lines connecting the patch antennae to a connector. The second conductive layer acts as a ground pattern and overlaps with the patch antennae and transmission lines.

  • The UWB antenna design includes a dielectric substrate and two conductive layers.
  • The first conductive layer has three patch antennae that receive UWB signals.
  • The second and third patch antennae are positioned in specific directions relative to the first patch antenna.
  • Transmission lines connect the patch antennae to a connector.
  • The second conductive layer acts as a ground pattern and overlaps with the patch antennae and transmission lines.

Potential Applications:

  • Wireless communication systems
  • Radar systems
  • Positioning and tracking systems
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices

Problems Solved:

  • Provides an efficient and compact UWB antenna design

Benefits:

  • Wideband coverage for various applications
  • Compact and space-saving design
  • Improved signal reception and transmission efficiency

Original Abstract Submitted

An ultra-wide band (UWB) antenna including a dielectric substrate, and first and second conductive layers arranged on opposite sides of the dielectric substrate. The first conductive layer includes a first, second and third patch antennae, each configured to receive a first UWB signal and a second UWB signal, wherein the second and third patch antennae are spaced apart from the first patch antenna in specific directions. The first conductive layer also includes first, second, and third transmission lines connecting, respectively, the first, second, and third patch antennae to a connector. The second conductive layer includes a ground pattern overlapping the first, second, and third patch antennae and the first, second, and third transmission lines, when facing the second conductive layer in a third direction that is perpendicular to the first direction and the second direction.
