SLIDABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18101339 titled 'SLIDABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an electronic device with a flexible display that can be viewed from the outside. The device includes a processor that can perform various functions based on user inputs received through the display.

  • The device has a flexible display that can be viewed from the outside through a housing.
  • The processor is connected to the display and can perform functions based on user inputs.
  • When a user slides the display to expose a certain portion, an object is displayed on that portion to receive user inputs.
  • The processor can receive user inputs through the displayed object.
  • Upon receiving a user input, the processor slides the display to expose another portion and performs a function corresponding to the input.
  • The function is displayed on the newly exposed portion of the display.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Mobile phones or tablets with flexible displays that provide additional functionality.
  • Smartwatches with flexible displays that can display different functions based on user inputs.
  • E-readers with flexible displays that allow users to interact with the content in new ways.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Limited screen space on electronic devices can make it challenging to display all necessary functions.
  • Traditional sliding mechanisms may be bulky or prone to damage.
  • Users may struggle to navigate through different functions on a small display.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Increased functionality and user interaction through a flexible display.
  • More efficient use of screen space by sliding and exposing different portions of the display.
  • Enhanced user experience by displaying relevant functions based on user inputs.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic may include: a housing; a flexible display at least a part of which is viewable to the outside through the housing; and at least one processor operatively connected to the flexible display, wherein the at least one processor may be configured to: in a state where a first portion of the flexible display is viewable to the outside, when a first user input for a sliding operation for exposing a second portion including at least a part of the first portion of the flexible display to the outside is received through the flexible display, display, on the at least a part of the first portion, an object for receiving a user input for performing at least one function; receive a second user input through a region in which the object is displayed; when the second user input is received, slide at least one region of the flexible display to expose the second portion of the flexible display to the outside; and display, on at least a part of the second portion, at least one screen obtained by performing at least one function corresponding to the second user input.
