METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR RECORDING A SUPER SLOW MOTION VIDEO IN A PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18096939 titled 'METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR RECORDING A SUPER SLOW MOTION VIDEO IN A PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method performed by an electronic device for generating a slow motion video. The device obtains multiple image frames captured by its camera and detects motion information in a first image frame. It then performs an interpolation operation using one or more image frames obtained during a predetermined time after the first image frame.

  • The method involves obtaining multiple image frames from a camera.
  • Motion information is detected in a specific image frame.
  • An interpolation operation is performed using image frames obtained after the specific image frame.
  • The method discards a frame obtained before the specific image frame and a frame obtained after a predetermined time from the specific image frame.

Potential Applications

  • Slow motion video creation for various purposes such as sports analysis, artistic videos, or scientific research.
  • Enhancing the visual experience in video games by adding slow motion effects.

Problems Solved

  • Generating slow motion videos typically requires high frame rates, which can be resource-intensive and result in large file sizes. This method allows for slow motion video creation using a lower frame rate.
  • The method automatically detects motion information and selects appropriate frames for interpolation, reducing the need for manual editing and selection.

Benefits

  • Simplifies the process of creating slow motion videos by automating frame selection and interpolation.
  • Reduces the resource requirements and file sizes associated with generating slow motion videos.
  • Provides flexibility in adjusting the speed of the slow motion effect by selecting different time intervals for interpolation.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method performed by an electronic device for generating a slow motion video includes obtaining plural image frames captured at a frame rate from a camera of the electronic device, detecting motion information in a first image frame from among the plural image frames, and performing an interpolation operation using one or more image frames from among the plural image frames. The one or more image frames are image frames obtained during a predetermined time after the first image frame in which the motion information is detected. A second image frame obtained before the first image frame in which the motion information is detected is discarded from the electronic device. A third image frame obtained after the predetermined time from the first image frame in which the motion information is detected is discarded from the electronic device.
