ICE MAKER AND REFRIGERATOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18095814 titled 'ICE MAKER AND REFRIGERATOR

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an ice maker for a refrigerator that includes a tray assembly with upper and lower trays. The upper tray defines the top part of several ice making chambers, while the lower tray is located below and can rotate relative to the upper tray, defining the lower part of the chambers. At least one of the trays is made of a flexible material. A case is provided to accommodate the flexible tray and prevent deformation, and a heater is located between the case and the flexible tray to supply heat to the ice making chambers.

  • The ice maker includes a tray assembly with upper and lower trays.
  • The upper tray defines the upper portions of multiple ice making chambers.
  • The lower tray is located below the upper tray and can rotate.
  • The lower tray defines the lower portions of the ice making chambers.
  • At least one of the trays is made of a flexible material.
  • A case is used to restrict deformation of the flexible tray.
  • A heater is located between the case and the flexible tray.
  • The heater supplies heat to the ice making chambers through the flexible tray.

Potential Applications

  • Refrigerators and freezers
  • Commercial ice makers

Problems Solved

  • Prevents deformation of the flexible tray
  • Provides efficient heat transfer to the ice making chambers

Benefits

  • Improved ice making process
  • Enhanced durability of the ice maker
  • More efficient use of energy

Original Abstract Submitted

An ice maker of a refrigerator includes a tray assembly having an upper tray that defines upper portions of a plurality of ice making chambers. Each of the plurality of ice making chambers is configured to receive water and generate an ice piece. The tray assembly also includes a lower tray that is located vertically below the upper tray, that is configured to rotate relative to the upper tray, and that defines lower portions of the plurality of ice making chambers, wherein at least one of the upper tray or the lower tray comprises a flexible tray made of a flexible material. Additionally, a case is configured to accommodate the flexible tray to restrict a deformation of the flexible tray. A heater that is located between the case and the flexible tray is configured to supply heat to the plurality of ice making chambers through the flexible tray.
