CROSS-APPLICATION CONTENT PLAYER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18094964 titled 'CROSS-APPLICATION CONTENT PLAYER

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method for seamless playback of a content item in a mobile application while displaying the user interface of another mobile application. Here are the key points:

  • The method allows a user to make a request related to a second mobile application while playing a content item in a first mobile application.
  • The content player continues playing the content item while displaying the user interface of the second mobile application.
  • The content player remains on top of the user interface of the second mobile application, ensuring uninterrupted playback of the content item from the point where the user made the request.
  • The method also enables the sharing of the content item with a second user when the first user interacts with the content player while it is still displayed on top of the user interface of the second mobile application.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This method can be used in video streaming applications where users may want to browse other apps while watching a video.
  • It can be implemented in music streaming apps, allowing users to switch between apps without interrupting the playback of a song or playlist.
  • This method can also be useful in podcast apps, enabling users to perform other tasks while listening to a podcast.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Users can multitask and use other mobile applications without pausing or interrupting the playback of a content item.
  • It eliminates the need to switch between apps to perform simple tasks like sharing a content item with others.
  • Users can have a seamless and uninterrupted experience while using multiple mobile applications simultaneously.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced user experience by allowing multitasking without interrupting content playback.
  • Improved convenience as users can easily share content without leaving the current app.
  • Increased efficiency as users can perform tasks in multiple apps simultaneously, saving time and effort.

A method includes receiving, during playback of a content item in a content player of a first mobile application presented on a client device of a first user, an indication of a user request pertaining to a second mobile application, the user request corresponding to a first point in the content item played in the content player of the first mobile application. The method additionally includes causing the playback of the content item to continue in the content player presented on a client device while a user interface of the second mobile application is displayed on the client device, wherein the content player persists on top of the user interface of the second mobile application to provide the playback of the content item in a continuous manner from the first point in the content item. The method further includes causing the content item to be shared with a second user in response to an input event initiating sharing of the content item, the input event following a user interaction by the first user with the content player persisting on top of the user interface of the second mobile application.
