DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18094861 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device with a specific structure and configuration.

  • The display device includes a substrate and signal lines (gate line, data line, and driving voltage line) that define the outer boundary of a pixel area.
  • A transistor is connected to the signal line, and a first electrode is formed on the signal line and the transistor, connected to the transistor.
  • The first electrode has two portions - a first portion overlying only the signal line and the transistor, and a second portion that includes the remaining part of the first electrode.
  • A pixel defining layer is formed on only the first portion of the first electrode, while an organic emission layer is formed on the second portion.
  • A second electrode is formed on the pixel defining layer and the organic emission layer.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Display devices such as OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) screens for smartphones, televisions, and other electronic devices.
  • Flexible or curved display panels for wearable devices, automotive displays, and other applications where flexibility is desired.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Provides a simplified structure for display devices, reducing complexity and manufacturing costs.
  • Enables the formation of pixel defining and organic emission layers in a precise and controlled manner.
  • Allows for the creation of flexible or curved display panels without compromising performance.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved display quality with enhanced brightness, contrast, and color accuracy.
  • Cost-effective manufacturing process due to simplified structure and reduced material usage.
  • Enables the production of flexible or curved display panels, expanding design possibilities and applications.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes: a substrate; signal lines including a gate line, a data line, and a driving voltage line that collectively define an outer boundary of a pixel area; a transistor connected to the signal line; a first electrode extending across the pixel area and formed on the signal line and the transistor, and connected to the transistor, the first electrode having a first portion overlying only the signal line and the transistor, and a second portion including all of the first electrode not included in the first portion; a pixel defining layer formed on only the first portion of the first electrode; an organic emission layer formed on substantially the entire second portion but not on the first portion; and a second electrode formed on the pixel defining layer and the organic emission layer.
