PRIVACY ALIGNED AND PERSONALIZED SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT SHARING RECOMMENDATIONS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18094617 titled 'PRIVACY ALIGNED AND PERSONALIZED SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT SHARING RECOMMENDATIONS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a system and method for selecting videos to share in a messaging session. It includes a data mining component that generates a first set of data associated with the messaging session, excluding data that is inaccessible to the user but including data that is accessible to the user. An identification component identifies a set of media items based on this first set of data. Additionally, an inaccessible data mining component generates a second set of data comprising data that is inaccessible to the user but accessible to at least one of the other users. A recommendation component then recommends a subset of the media items to the user based on this second set of data.

  • The system generates a first set of data associated with a messaging session between a user and one or more other users.
  • The first set of data includes accessible data to the user and excludes inaccessible data.
  • An identification component identifies a set of media items based on the first set of data.
  • An inaccessible data mining component generates a second set of data that is inaccessible to the user but accessible to at least one of the other users.
  • A recommendation component recommends a subset of the media items to the user based on the second set of data.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied to messaging platforms or social media platforms to enhance the video sharing experience.
  • It can be used in video conferencing applications to suggest relevant videos to participants during a session.

Problems Solved

  • The system solves the problem of limited access to data by generating a first set of data that includes only accessible information for the user.
  • It addresses the challenge of selecting videos to share by identifying a set of media items based on the available data.
  • The system also solves the issue of inaccessible data by generating a second set of data that includes information accessible to other users.

Benefits

  • Users can easily find and share videos relevant to their messaging session, enhancing communication and engagement.
  • The system provides personalized recommendations based on the available data, improving the user experience.
  • By including inaccessible data from other users, the system broadens the range of video recommendations, increasing the chances of finding relevant content.

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems and methods are provided that facilitate selecting videos to share in a messaging session. A system is provided that includes an accessible data mining component configured to generate a first set of data associated with a messaging session between a user and one or more other user, the first set of data excluding data that is inaccessible to the user and comprising data that is accessible to the user, and an identification component configured to identify a set of media items based on the first set of data. An inaccessible data mining component is further configured to generate a second set of data comprising data that is inaccessible to the user but accessible to at least one of the one or more other users, and a recommendation component configured to recommend a subset of the set of media items to the user based on the second set of data.
