DIFFERENTIATED STORAGE SERVICES IN ETHERNET SSD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18092088 titled 'DIFFERENTIATED STORAGE SERVICES IN ETHERNET SSD

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a system and method for providing differentiated storage services using an Ethernet Solid State Drive (eSSD). The eSSD receives input/output (I/O) service requests from a remote host through a multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) network. The I/O service requests contain parameters that are used to match the requests to a label switched path (LSP) based on the parameters. A storage traffic stream is then established between the eSSD and the remote host over the MPLS network, following the selected LSP.

  • The system uses an Ethernet SSD (eSSD) to provide differentiated storage services.
  • Input/output (I/O) service requests are received from a remote host through a multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) network.
  • The I/O service requests contain parameters that are used to match the requests to a label switched path (LSP).
  • A storage traffic stream is opened between the eSSD and the remote host over the MPLS network based on the selected LSP.

Potential Applications

  • Data centers and cloud storage providers can utilize this technology to offer differentiated storage services to their clients.
  • Enterprises with remote offices can benefit from improved storage performance and reliability by implementing this system.
  • Content delivery networks (CDNs) can optimize their storage infrastructure and provide faster access to content using this technology.

Problems Solved

  • The system solves the problem of efficiently managing storage traffic over a network by using an Ethernet SSD and MPLS network.
  • It addresses the challenge of matching I/O service requests to the appropriate label switched path based on specific parameters.
  • The system solves the problem of providing differentiated storage services to clients based on their specific requirements.

Benefits

  • The use of an Ethernet SSD improves storage performance and reliability.
  • Differentiated storage services allow clients to prioritize and allocate resources according to their needs.
  • The system provides efficient management of storage traffic, resulting in optimized network performance and reduced latency.

Original Abstract Submitted

A system and method for differentiated storage services with a Ethernet SSD includes receiving, at an Ethernet SSD (eSSD), an input/output (I/O) service request from a remote host via a multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) network. The I/O service request includes at least one parameter that may be used to match the I/O service request to a label switched path (LSP) based on the parameter(s). A storage traffic stream may then be opened between the eSSD and the remote host over the MPLS network according to the LSP.
