VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18091625 titled 'VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a vehicle travel control device that ensures a vehicle follows a target trajectory. It includes an automated driving control device that generates a first target trajectory for automated driving. The vehicle travel control device determines if a condition for travel assist control is met and generates a second target trajectory for travel assist control if the condition is satisfied. Even if the second target trajectory is generated during automated driving or when a priority condition is met, the vehicle travel control device gives more importance to the first target trajectory.

  • The patent application describes a vehicle travel control device that ensures a vehicle follows a target trajectory.
  • An automated driving control device generates a first target trajectory for automated driving.
  • The vehicle travel control device determines if a condition for travel assist control is met.
  • If the condition is satisfied, the vehicle travel control device generates a second target trajectory for travel assist control.

Potential Applications

  • Autonomous vehicles
  • Advanced driver assistance systems
  • Vehicle navigation systems

Problems Solved

  • Ensures a vehicle follows a target trajectory during automated driving and travel assist control.
  • Prioritizes the first target trajectory even when a second target trajectory is generated.

Benefits

  • Improved accuracy and precision in vehicle travel control.
  • Enhanced safety and reliability in automated driving and travel assist control.
  • Flexibility in generating target trajectories based on different conditions.

Original Abstract Submitted

A vehicle travel control device executes vehicle travel control such that a vehicle follows a target trajectory. An automated driving control device generates a first target trajectory that is the target trajectory for automated driving of the vehicle. The vehicle travel control device further determines whether or not an activation condition of travel assist control is satisfied. When the activation condition is satisfied, the vehicle travel control device generates a second target trajectory that is the target trajectory for the travel assist control. Even when the second target trajectory is generated during the automated driving, or when the second target trajectory is generated during the automated driving and a priority condition for giving priority to the first target trajectory is satisfied, the vehicle travel control device executes the vehicle travel control by giving more weight to the first target trajectory than to the second target trajectory.
