METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANAGING CONNECTION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18084941 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANAGING CONNECTION

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method for managing a connection by a server, involving monitoring the state of a TCP connection for a communication session of a receiver device by an IMS stack, based on signal parameters and connection context information for a defined period without packet communication. Depending on the state of the TCP connection, the method either closes the connection if the session is suspended or selects SIP timers for resetting and routing the communication session if the session is registered.

  • Monitors TCP connection state for a communication session of a receiver device
  • Uses IMS stack to analyze signal parameters and connection context information
  • Closes TCP connection if communication session is suspended
  • Selects SIP timers for resetting and routing the communication session if session is registered

Potential Applications

  • Telecommunication networks
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices
  • Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services

Problems Solved

  • Efficient management of TCP connections
  • Optimizing communication sessions for receiver devices
  • Preventing unnecessary resource consumption

Benefits

  • Improved network performance
  • Enhanced reliability of communication sessions
  • Resource optimization for servers

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for managing a connection by a server is provided. The method may comprise monitoring a state of a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connection for a communication session of a receiver device by Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) stack, based on a plurality of signal parameters and connection context information for a defined period in absence of packet communication; based on the state of the TCP connection for the communication session being suspended, closing the TCP connection; and based on the state of the TCP connection for the communication session being registered, selecting one or more Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) timers for resetting and routing the communication session of the receiver device.
