FLEXIBLE DISPLAY MODULE AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18080354 titled 'FLEXIBLE DISPLAY MODULE AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

An electronic device with a sliding mechanism and a conductive layer on the display window region.

  • The device has a display module with two regions - a first region and a second region.
  • The second region extends from the first region and has a conductive layer for sensing input.
  • There are two structures - a first structure facing the display module and a second structure connected to the first structure.
  • The second structure can slide towards and away from the first structure, opening and closing the device.
  • When closed, the device has a front surface with the first region and a portion of the second region exposed at the window region.
  • When open, the device has a front surface with the first region and a portion of the second region exposed.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Smartphones and tablets with a sliding mechanism for easy opening and closing.
  • Laptops or convertible devices with a sliding mechanism for transitioning between tablet and laptop modes.
  • Gaming devices with a sliding mechanism for additional controls or a hidden display.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Provides a compact and sleek design by hiding the second region when the device is closed.
  • Allows for a larger display area by extending the second region when the device is open.
  • Enables a tactile input experience through the conductive layer on the second region.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced user experience with a sliding mechanism for easy access and interaction.
  • Versatile device design that can adapt to different usage scenarios.
  • Improved aesthetics with a hidden second region when the device is closed.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device includes a display module including a first region and a second region which extends from the first region and tactically senses an input via a conductive layer, a first structure facing the display module, a second structure slidably connected to the first structure, and slidable together with the display module along the first structure, and a back cover forming a rear surface of the electronic device and including a window region, and the conductive layer which is on the window region. The second structure which slides towards and away the first structure respectively closes and opens the electronic device, the electronic device which is closed defines the front surface including the first region, together with the second region tactically exposed at the window region, and the electronic device which is open defines the front surface including the first region and a portion of the second region.
