POUCH-TYPE ALL-SOLID-STATE BATTERY WITH REFERENCE ELECTRODE INSERTED AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18077507 titled 'POUCH-TYPE ALL-SOLID-STATE BATTERY WITH REFERENCE ELECTRODE INSERTED AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The present disclosure describes a pouch-type all-solid-state battery with a reference electrode inserted and a method for manufacturing it. The battery includes a unit cell with a negative electrode portion, a positive electrode portion, and a solid electrolyte portion. It also has an exterior material with a space to accommodate the unit cell, a reference electrode tap formed inside the exterior material, and a reference electrode portion formed inside the unit cell.

  • The battery is a pouch-type all-solid-state battery, which means it has a flexible and thin design.
  • The battery includes a reference electrode, which helps in measuring the potential difference between the positive and negative electrodes.
  • The reference electrode tap is adjacent to the solid electrolyte portion, allowing for easy access to the reference electrode.
  • The reference electrode portion is positioned between the solid electrolyte portion and the reference electrode tap, ensuring accurate measurement of the potential difference.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be used in various portable electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops, to provide a more efficient and reliable power source.
  • It can also be used in electric vehicles to improve their battery performance and increase their driving range.

Problems Solved

  • The inclusion of a reference electrode in the battery helps in accurately measuring the potential difference, which is crucial for monitoring the battery's performance and ensuring its safe operation.
  • The design of the battery with a reference electrode tap and portion makes it easier to access and measure the potential difference.

Benefits

  • The pouch-type all-solid-state battery design offers flexibility and thinness, making it suitable for various applications where space is limited.
  • The inclusion of a reference electrode improves the battery's performance monitoring and safety.
  • The easy access to the reference electrode through the tap simplifies the measurement process and enhances the battery's usability.

Original Abstract Submitted

The present disclosure relates to a pouch-type all-solid-state battery with a reference electrode inserted and a method for manufacturing the same. The pouch-type all-solid-state battery with a reference electrode inserted includes a unit cell including a negative electrode portion, a positive electrode portion, and a solid electrolyte portion interposed between the negative electrode portion and the positive electrode portion and having a sheet shape; an exterior material provided with a space capable of accommodating the unit cell therein; a reference electrode tap adjacent to the solid electrolyte portion, and formed inside the exterior material; and a reference electrode portion positioned between the solid electrolyte portion and the reference electrode tap, and formed inside the unit cell.
