The present disclosure relates to a 5generation (5G) or pre-5G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate than a 4generation (4G) communication system such as long term evolution (LTE). According to various embodiments of the present disclosure, an apparatus of a distributed unit (DU) in a wireless communication system includes at least one transceiver, and at least one processor coupled with the at least one transceiver, and the at least one processor is configured to: generate a frame of global system for mobile communications (GSM); acquire a GSM packet corresponding to a timeslot of the frame, based on packetizing of the frame of the GSM; and control the DU to transmit a message including the GSM packet to a radio unit (RU) through an enhanced common public radio interface (eCPRI)-based fronthaul interface, and the message includes data corresponding to the GSM packet, information regarding a number of the frame, and/or information regarding a number of the timeslot.
