GATE DRIVER AND DISPLAY DEVICE HAVING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18077405 titled 'GATE DRIVER AND DISPLAY DEVICE HAVING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a gate driver that consists of multiple stages. Each stage includes various components such as output parts, input parts, and control parts to manage the voltage and signals within the gate driver.

  • The gate driver is designed with multiple stages, each serving a specific purpose.
  • Each stage includes a first output part that generates a carry signal based on the voltage of a specific node.
  • The voltage of the first node is controlled by a first input part, which responds to a previous carry signal.
  • The voltage of the first node is also influenced by a second input part, which responds to a first next carry signal.
  • A second output part generates a scan signal based on the voltage of the first node.
  • A third output part produces a sensing signal based on the voltage of the first node.
  • A scan signal control part applies a low power voltage to the output terminal of the second output part, specifically when a second next carry signal is generated before the first next carry signal.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Gate drivers are commonly used in power electronics applications, such as motor control, inverters, and power supplies.
  • This gate driver design can be implemented in various electronic devices that require precise control of signals and voltages.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The gate driver provides efficient control over the voltage and signals within the system, ensuring accurate and reliable operation.
  • The inclusion of multiple stages allows for better management of carry signals and voltage control, reducing potential errors or malfunctions.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The gate driver design offers improved performance and reliability in power electronics applications.
  • The ability to control the voltage and signals at different stages enhances the overall efficiency and accuracy of the system.
  • The inclusion of a scan signal control part helps optimize power consumption by applying low power voltage when necessary.

Original Abstract Submitted

A gate driver includes stages. Each stage includes: a first output part for outputting a carry signal in response to a voltage of a first node; a first input part for controlling the voltage of the first node in response to a previous carry signal; a second input part for controlling the voltage of the first node in response to a first next carry signal; a second output part for outputting a scan signal in response to the voltage of the first node; a third output part for outputting a sensing signal in response to the voltage of the first node; and a scan signal control part for applying a first low power voltage to an output terminal of the second output part to which the scan signal is output in response to a second next carry signal of which a pulse is generated before the first next carry signal.
