METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING INFORMATION RELATED TO USER EQUIPMENT IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18076678 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING INFORMATION RELATED TO USER EQUIPMENT IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a communication system that supports higher data rates than existing 4G systems like LTE. It involves a user equipment (UE) with a transceiver and controller.

  • The controller configures an encryption key with the network through a primary authentication procedure.
  • The UE receives a message from an application function device, requesting permission to use information about the UE.
  • Based on the received message, the UE determines whether to allow the use of the requested information.
  • If permission is granted, the UE generates a token using the encryption key, UE identifier, or an input value.
  • The UE then transmits a second message to the application function device, indicating permission and including the generated token.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Improved data rates and communication capabilities in 5G or pre-5G systems.
  • Enhanced security measures for allowing access to user information.
  • Efficient authentication procedures for user equipment in wireless communication systems.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Addressing the need for higher data rates in communication systems beyond 4G.
  • Providing a secure and efficient method for granting permission to access user information.
  • Streamlining the authentication process for user equipment in wireless communication systems.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Faster and more reliable communication with higher data rates.
  • Enhanced security measures to protect user information.
  • Simplified authentication procedures for user equipment.

Original Abstract Submitted

The disclosure relates to a 5 generation (5G) or pre-5G communication system for supporting a higher data rate than a beyond 4 generation (4G) communication system such as long term evolution (LTE). A user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system may include a transceiver and at least one controller controlling the transceiver. The at least one controller may be configured to configure a first encryption key with a network according to a primary authentication procedure, receive a first message requesting permission for use of information about the UE from an application function device, determine whether to allow use of the information about the UE based on reception of the message, generate a token based on at least one of the first encryption key, an identifier (ID) of the UE, or a first input value based on determining to allow use of the information about the UE, and transmit a second message indicating permission for use of the information about the UE, including the token to the application function device in response to the first message.
