CONTROL METHOD, COMPUTER-READABLE STORAGE MEDIUM, AND INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18076648 titled 'CONTROL METHOD, COMPUTER-READABLE STORAGE MEDIUM, AND INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a control method for an information processing apparatus that can communicate with multiple image output devices. The method involves the following steps:

  • When a user inputs a command to switch between image output devices, the method identifies the differences in print settings between the current and new device.
  • If there are no differences in print settings, the method retains the print settings from the previous device.
  • If there are differences in print settings, the method presents the user with a list of print settings options that correspond to the differences on the new device.

Potential applications of this technology include:

  • Print management systems: This method can be used in software or hardware solutions that manage multiple image output devices in an office or printing environment.
  • User-friendly interface: The method provides a user-friendly way for users to switch between image output devices while maintaining their preferred print settings.

The problems solved by this technology are:

  • Print setting inconsistencies: When switching between image output devices, users may need to manually adjust print settings each time, leading to inconsistencies and potential errors.
  • User confusion: Users may be unsure of how to set up print settings on a new device, resulting in frustration and inefficiency.

The benefits of this technology are:

  • Time-saving: Users can quickly switch between image output devices without having to manually adjust print settings each time.
  • Error reduction: By automatically identifying and presenting the appropriate print settings options, the method reduces the chances of users making mistakes or using incorrect settings.
  • User-friendly: The method provides a user-friendly interface that simplifies the process of switching between image output devices and setting up print settings.

Original Abstract Submitted

A control method executed in an information processing apparatus capable of communicating with a plurality of image output apparatuses, comprising, based on an operation input by a user concerning switching of the plurality of image output apparatuses, specifying a difference of a print setting of the image output apparatus before and after the switching, and (i) for an item that has no difference of the print setting before and after the switching, diverting the print setting before the switching, and (ii) for an item that has the difference of the print setting before and after the switching, presenting a candidate of the print setting corresponding to the difference by the image output apparatus after the switching.
