ELECTRONIC DEVICE HAVING FLEXIBLE DISPLAY AND OPERATION METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18074983 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE HAVING FLEXIBLE DISPLAY AND OPERATION METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an electronic device with a flexible display that can be rotated and rolled. Here are the key points:

  • The device consists of two housings, with one housing slidably coupled to the other.
  • The flexible display is divided into a first area mounted on the first housing and a second area extending from the first area.
  • Inside the first housing, there is a gear structure that enables the rotation of the flexible display.
  • A mounting member is attached to the first housing and can be worn on the human body.
  • The flexible display can be rotated and rolled by the gear structure, exposing the second area to the outside.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wearable devices: The ability to rotate and roll the flexible display can be useful in creating innovative wearable devices such as smartwatches or fitness trackers.
  • Foldable smartphones: This technology could be applied to create smartphones with flexible displays that can be folded and unfolded, providing a larger screen size when needed.
  • E-readers: The ability to roll the flexible display could be beneficial in creating e-readers that can be easily carried and stored.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Limited screen size: The flexible display allows for a larger screen size when needed, overcoming the limitations of traditional rigid displays.
  • Portability: The ability to roll the display makes the device more compact and easier to carry.
  • Versatility: The rotation and rolling capabilities of the display provide more flexibility in how the device can be used.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced user experience: The larger screen size and flexibility of the display offer a more immersive and versatile user experience.
  • Improved portability: The ability to roll the display makes the device more portable and convenient to carry.
  • Innovative design possibilities: The flexible display opens up new design possibilities for electronic devices, allowing for unique and creative form factors.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device having a flexible display is provided. The electronic device includes a first housing, a second housing slidably coupled to a side of the first housing, a flexible display including a first area mounted on the first housing and a second area extending from the first area, a gear structure disposed within the first housing, and a mounting member rotatably coupled to the first housing and mounted on or separated from at least a portion of the human body, wherein the flexible display may be rotated and rolled according to rotation of the gear structure in a state in which the first area is exposed to the outside, thereby exposing at least a portion of the second area to the outside.
