MONITORING A COMPUTER SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18064722 titled 'MONITORING A COMPUTER SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The present disclosure relates to a method for monitoring a computer system, where a converter unit is provided to communicate with the monitoring unit and the processing unit, receiving and pre-processing monitoring data before sending it to remote management systems.

  • The method involves providing a converter unit to a computer system for monitoring its operation.
  • The converter unit communicates with the monitoring unit and the processing unit.
  • It receives monitoring data from the monitoring unit and pre-processes it.
  • The pre-processed data is then sent to at least one remote management system.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various industries where monitoring and managing computer systems remotely is essential, such as:

  • Data centers
  • Network operations centers
  • Cloud service providers

Problems Solved

This technology helps in efficiently monitoring and managing computer systems by pre-processing monitoring data before sending it to remote management systems, reducing the workload on the main processing unit and improving overall system performance.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include:

  • Improved system performance
  • Enhanced monitoring capabilities
  • Remote management convenience

Potential Commercial Applications

The potential commercial applications of this technology could be seen in:

  • IT infrastructure management solutions
  • Remote monitoring and management software
  • Data center management tools

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be the use of intermediary units for data processing and transmission in computer systems, although the specific application to monitoring and managing systems remotely may be unique.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology impact cybersecurity measures in computer systems?

This technology could potentially enhance cybersecurity measures by providing more efficient monitoring and management of computer systems, but the specific implications on cybersecurity are not addressed in the abstract.

What are the potential limitations of using a converter unit in monitoring computer systems?

The abstract does not mention any potential limitations or challenges that may arise from implementing a converter unit for monitoring computer systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

The present disclosure relates to method for monitoring a computer system. The computer system comprises a first processing unit and a monitoring unit for monitoring operation of the computer system. The method comprises: providing the computer system with a converter unit that is configured to communicate with the monitoring unit and the first processing unit. The converter unit may receive monitoring data from the monitoring unit. The received monitoring data may be pre-processed at the converter unit. The converter unit may send the resulting pre-processed data to at least one remote management system.
