METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FLEXIBLE STARTING LOCATIONS FOR SIDELINK TRANSMISSION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18058700 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FLEXIBLE STARTING LOCATIONS FOR SIDELINK TRANSMISSION

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method and apparatus for using flexible starting locations for sidelink (SL) transmissions in a wireless communication system. The method involves determining a set of multiple orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols in a slot and performing a channel access procedure over a channel. If the channel access procedure is successful before a certain OFDM symbol, a sidelink transmission is transmitted starting from that OFDM symbol within the set.

  • The method allows user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system to have flexibility in choosing the starting location for sidelink transmissions.
  • The set of multiple OFDM symbols in a slot can be determined based on a higher layer configuration or pre-configurations.
  • The method ensures that the sidelink transmission starts from a specific OFDM symbol only if the channel access procedure is successfully performed before that symbol.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems that utilize shared spectrum channel access.
  • It can be particularly useful in scenarios where multiple UEs need to transmit sidelink data simultaneously.

Problems Solved

  • The method solves the problem of rigid starting locations for sidelink transmissions in wireless communication systems.
  • It allows UEs to have flexibility in choosing the starting location based on the channel access procedure.

Benefits

  • The flexibility in starting locations for sidelink transmissions allows for better resource utilization and improved system efficiency.
  • It enables simultaneous sidelink transmissions from multiple UEs, enhancing the overall capacity of the wireless communication system.
  • The method ensures that sidelink transmissions only start if the channel access procedure is successfully performed, reducing interference and improving reliability.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods and apparatuses for use of flexible starting locations for SL transmissions in a wireless communication system. A method of user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system operating with a shared spectrum channel access includes determining a set of multiple orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols in a slot and performing a channel access procedure over a channel. The method further includes transmitting a sidelink transmission over the channel, starting from an OFDM symbol within the set of multiple OFDM symbols in the slot, upon successfully performing the channel access procedure before the OFDM symbol. The set of multiple OFDM symbols in the slot may be determined based on a higher layer configuration or pre-configurations.
