PAGING OPPORTUNITY MONITORING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18057822 titled 'PAGING OPPORTUNITY MONITORING

Simplified Explanation

This patent application describes systems, methods, and devices for wireless communication. It introduces a triggering synchronization signal block (SSB) that allows a user equipment (UE) to monitor a floating Type-2 physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) and determine which paging occasions (POs) to monitor. Alternatively, the UE can monitor a fixed Type-2 PDCCH without the need for a triggering signal. The UE can also monitor for a paging transmission during a specific monitoring period, which is determined based on received signaling. The UE may receive signaling indicating an early end to the monitoring period, allowing it to support downlink reference signaling (DRS) continuity and receive paging in a shared channel.

  • The patent application introduces a triggering synchronization signal block (SSB) for wireless communication.
  • The UE can use the SSB to monitor a floating Type-2 physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) and determine which paging occasions (POs) to monitor.
  • Alternatively, the UE can monitor a fixed Type-2 PDCCH without the need for a triggering signal.
  • The UE can also monitor for a paging transmission during a specific monitoring period, determined by received signaling.
  • The UE may receive signaling indicating an early end to the monitoring period, allowing it to support downlink reference signaling (DRS) continuity and receive paging in a shared channel.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems, including cellular networks and IoT devices. It can improve the efficiency and reliability of wireless communication by optimizing the monitoring of control channels and paging transmissions.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient monitoring of control channels: The introduction of the triggering synchronization signal block (SSB) allows user equipment (UE) to efficiently monitor the floating Type-2 physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) and determine which paging occasions (POs) to monitor. 2. Early end of monitoring period: The signaling indicating an early end to the monitoring period helps support downlink reference signaling (DRS) continuity and enables the UE to receive paging in a shared channel.

Benefits

1. Improved efficiency: The use of the triggering synchronization signal block (SSB) and optimized monitoring of control channels and paging transmissions enhance the efficiency of wireless communication. 2. Enhanced reliability: The early end signaling for the monitoring period ensures the UE can receive paging in a shared channel and supports downlink reference signaling (DRS) continuity, improving the reliability of wireless communication.

Original Abstract Submitted

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses for wireless communication. A user equipment (UE) may acquire a triggering synchronization signal block (SSB), which enables the UE to monitor for a floating Type-2 physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) and to determine a subset of paging occasions (POs) to monitor. Or, the UE may monitor for a fixed Type-2 PDCCH, where the UE does not require a triggering signal to monitors POs. In another aspect, the UE may monitor for a paging transmission during a monitoring period. The UE may determine the monitoring period based on received signaling. The UE may receive the signaling, during the monitoring period, indicating that the monitoring period is to be ended before a scheduled end of the monitoring period. In this way, the UE may support a continuity requirement associated with downlink reference signaling (DRS) and may support reception of paging in a shared channel.
