METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SCHEDULED LINK MUTING AT AN ACCESS POINT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18052893 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SCHEDULED LINK MUTING AT AN ACCESS POINT

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a patent application for methods and apparatuses related to scheduled link muting at an access point (AP) multi-link device (MLD). The device includes a transceiver and a processor, which work together to generate an information element (IE) indicating the unavailability of a link for a specified duration. Once the indicated duration has elapsed, the link is enabled again. This information element is included in a broadcast frame and transmitted by the transceiver.

  • The patent application focuses on scheduled link muting at an access point multi-link device.
  • The device includes a transceiver and a processor that generate an information element (IE).
  • The IE indicates the unavailability of a link for a specified duration.
  • Once the indicated duration has passed, the link is enabled again.
  • The IE is included in a broadcast frame and transmitted by the transceiver.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in wireless networks, particularly in access points, to manage and control the availability of specific links.
  • It can be used to schedule link muting for maintenance purposes, allowing network administrators to disable and enable links as needed without disrupting the entire network.
  • The technology can also be utilized in scenarios where certain links need to be temporarily disabled due to interference or congestion, ensuring optimal network performance.

Problems Solved

  • The technology solves the problem of managing and controlling link availability in wireless networks.
  • It provides a method to schedule link muting for maintenance purposes, allowing for efficient network management without causing disruptions.
  • It addresses the issue of interference or congestion by temporarily disabling specific links, ensuring optimal network performance.

Benefits

  • The scheduled link muting feature allows for planned maintenance activities without impacting the entire network.
  • It provides flexibility in managing network resources by enabling the temporary disabling of specific links.
  • The technology improves network performance by addressing interference or congestion issues through link disablement.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods and apparatuses for scheduled link muting at an access point. An access point (AP) multi-link device (MLD) comprises a transceiver and a processor operably coupled to the transceiver. The processor is configured to generate an information element (IE) configured to indicate unavailability of a link, the information element comprising an indication of a duration of link disablement; and when a value of the indicated duration of the link disablement has elapsed, enable the link, wherein the IE is included in a broadcast frame, and the transceiver is configured to transmit the broadcast frame.
