UPLINK TRANSMISSIONS BASED ON SYNCHRONIZATION SIGNALS AND PHYSICAL BROADCAST CHANNEL BLOCK RECEPTIONS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18049615 titled 'UPLINK TRANSMISSIONS BASED ON SYNCHRONIZATION SIGNALS AND PHYSICAL BROADCAST CHANNEL BLOCK RECEPTIONS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes apparatuses and methods for determining the spatial setting in a wireless communication system using synchronization signals and physical broadcast channel (SS/PBCH) block receptions. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • A user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system receives information about indexes for synchronization signals and physical broadcast channel (SS/PBCH) blocks.
  • The UE receives a first SS/PBCH block corresponding to a first index and a second SS/PBCH block corresponding to a second index.
  • The UE determines the physical cell identity (PCI) of a serving cell based on the first SS/PBCH block and calculates the path-loss based on the second SS/PBCH block.
  • Both the first and second SS/PBCH blocks have the same transmission power.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless communication systems: The described method can be applied in various wireless communication systems to determine the spatial setting and improve the overall performance of the system.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Spatial setting determination: The patent application addresses the problem of accurately determining the spatial setting in a wireless communication system using synchronization signals and physical broadcast channel blocks.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved cell identification: The method allows for accurate determination of the physical cell identity (PCI) of a serving cell, which is essential for proper functioning of the wireless communication system.
  • Enhanced path-loss calculation: By utilizing the second SS/PBCH block, the method enables accurate calculation of path-loss, which is crucial for optimizing signal strength and coverage in the system.

Original Abstract Submitted

Apparatuses and methods for spatial setting determination based on synchronization signals and physical broadcast channel (SS/PBCH) block receptions. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system includes receiving first information for a first set of indexes for synchronization signals and physical broadcast channel (SS/PBCH) blocks, a first SS/PBCH block corresponding to a first index from the first set of indexes, second information for a second set of indexes for SS/PBCH blocks, and a second SS/PBCH block corresponding to a second index from the second set of indexes. The method further includes determining a physical cell identity (PCI) of a serving cell based on the first SS/PBCH block and a path-loss based on the second SS/PBCH block. The first SS/PBCH block and the second SS/PBCH block have a same transmission power.
