BUFFER STATUS REPORT WITH INTEGRATED ACCESS BACKHAUL - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18048401 titled 'BUFFER STATUS REPORT WITH INTEGRATED ACCESS BACKHAUL

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for providing a Buffer Status Report (BSR) in a network. The method involves selecting a format for the BSR from a range of options based on predetermined criteria. The criteria may include factors such as the number of configured LCGs (Logical Channel Groups), the number of LCGs with a minimum priority, and the desired level of BSR granularity.

  • The method allows for the selection of the most suitable BSR format based on specific criteria.
  • The predetermined criteria can be customized to meet the requirements of the network.
  • The method provides flexibility in choosing the level of detail and granularity in the BSR.
  • It enables efficient management and monitoring of buffer status in a network.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in various network environments, such as telecommunications networks, data centers, and cloud computing systems.
  • It can be used in network management systems to optimize buffer utilization and improve overall network performance.
  • The method can be implemented in wireless networks to enhance Quality of Service (QoS) by effectively managing buffer resources.

Problems Solved

  • The method addresses the challenge of efficiently providing buffer status reports in a network.
  • It solves the problem of selecting the appropriate format for the BSR based on specific criteria.
  • The method helps in managing buffer resources effectively and optimizing network performance.

Benefits

  • The method allows for customization and flexibility in selecting the BSR format, ensuring it aligns with the specific needs of the network.
  • It enables efficient management and monitoring of buffer status, leading to improved network performance.
  • The method helps in optimizing buffer utilization, which can result in enhanced Quality of Service for network users.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for providing a Buffer Status Report (BSR) in a network is provided. The method comprises selecting a format of the BSR from among at least two BSR formats. The format of the BSR is selected based on one or more predetermined criteria. The predetermined criteria may comprise one or more of: a number of configured LCGs; a number of LCGs of a certain minimum priority; and/or a required level of BSR granularity.
