CONNECTED MODE DISCONTINUOUS RECEPTION (C-DRX) ON/OFF SYNCHRONIZATION COORDINATION BETWEEN USER EQUIPMENT AND NETWORK - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18045428 titled 'CONNECTED MODE DISCONTINUOUS RECEPTION (C-DRX) ON/OFF SYNCHRONIZATION COORDINATION BETWEEN USER EQUIPMENT AND NETWORK

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes apparatus, methods, and computer-readable media for connected mode discontinuous reception (C-DRX) on/off synchronization coordination between user equipment and network entities.

  • User equipment (UE) can transmit a UE capability message indicating support for C-DRX on/off synchronization coordination with the network entity.
  • The UE receives a DRX synchronization coordination configuration based on the UE capability message, configuring the UE with C-DRX on/off synchronization coordination with the network entity.
  • The UE can determine when an inactivity timer associated with the DRX synchronization coordination configuration is about to expire and transmit special uplink signaling to transition into an off duration in a DRX cycle.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in cellular networks, IoT devices, and other wireless communication systems where power-saving mechanisms are crucial.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient power management in wireless communication devices. 2. Synchronization coordination between user equipment and network entities for optimized performance.

Benefits

Original Abstract Submitted

Apparatus, methods, and computer-readable media for connected mode discontinuous reception (C-DRX) on/off synchronization coordination between user equipment and network are disclosed herein. A user equipment (UE) may transmit a UE capability message that indicates that the UE has capability to support C-DRX on/off synchronization coordination with the network entity. The UE may receive a DRX synchronization coordination configuration based on the UE capability message, the DRX synchronization coordination configuration configuring the UE with the C-DRX on/off synchronization coordination with the network entity. The UE may determine that an inactivity timer associated with the DRX synchronization coordination configuration is within a threshold time to expire, and transmit special uplink signaling indicating that the UE intends to transition into an off duration in a DRX cycle based on the inactivity timer being within the threshold time to expire.
