UPLINK TRACKING REFERENCE SIGNAL TECHNIQUES IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17999747 titled 'UPLINK TRACKING REFERENCE SIGNAL TECHNIQUES IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications that involve the configuration and transmission of uplink reference signals for tracking. These reference signals are used to estimate frequency and time shifts associated with communications with a user equipment (UE). The estimated shifts are then used to provide compensated communications with the UE.

  • Uplink reference signals are transmitted by a UE for tracking purposes.
  • A base station or transmission-reception point (TRP) estimates frequency and time shifts associated with communications with the UE.
  • The estimated shifts are used to provide compensated communications with the UE, such as Doppler compensated communications.
  • The uplink reference signal for tracking can be configured as a sounding reference signal.

Potential Applications

  • Wireless communication systems
  • Mobile networks
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices
  • Satellite communications

Problems Solved

  • Doppler shifts and time shifts in wireless communications can cause signal degradation and loss of synchronization.
  • Compensated communications can help mitigate the effects of these shifts and improve the overall quality of wireless communications.

Benefits

  • Improved accuracy in tracking and estimating frequency and time shifts.
  • Enhanced communication quality and reliability.
  • Better performance in mobile and IoT networks.
  • Increased efficiency in satellite communications.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for configuration and transmission of one or more uplink reference signals for tracking. A user equipment (UE) may transmit one or more uplink reference signals for tracking and a base station or transmission-reception point (TRP) may estimate one or more frequency or time shifts (e.g., a Doppler shift, time shift, or both) associated with communications with the UE. The estimated frequency shifts, time shifts, or combinations thereof, may be used to provide compensated communications (e.g., Doppler compensated communications) with the UE. The uplink reference signal for tracking may be a sounding reference signal that is configured as a tracking reference signal.
