MEASUREMENT CONFIGURATION FOR DOPPLER SHIFT REPORTING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17997916 titled 'MEASUREMENT CONFIGURATION FOR DOPPLER SHIFT REPORTING

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications that address the impact of Doppler shifts on signaling between a user equipment (UE) and other devices in the system.

  • Doppler shifts can affect the accuracy of signaling in wireless communications systems.
  • The UE receives a configuration for measuring Doppler shifts, which helps estimate the Doppler shift parameters associated with reference signals transmitted from transmission reception points (TRPs).
  • The measurement configuration includes a parameter that restricts the number of durations the UE can use for estimating the Doppler shift parameters.
  • The UE generates and transmits a measurement report for the estimated Doppler shift parameters based on a determined reporting accuracy and granularity.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems, such as cellular networks, satellite communications, and IoT networks.
  • It can improve the accuracy and reliability of signaling in wireless communications, leading to better overall system performance.

Problems Solved

  • Doppler shifts can cause errors and degradation in wireless communications, impacting the quality and reliability of the signals.
  • By providing a method to estimate and report Doppler shift parameters, this technology helps mitigate the effects of Doppler shifts on signaling.

Benefits

  • Improved accuracy: The UE can estimate Doppler shift parameters more accurately, leading to better signal quality and reliability.
  • Enhanced system performance: By accounting for Doppler shifts, the overall performance of wireless communication systems can be improved.
  • Efficient measurement reporting: The determined reporting accuracy and granularity ensure that the UE transmits measurement reports in an efficient manner.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some wireless communications systems, signaling may be impacted by Doppler shifts associated with communications between a user equipment (UE) and one or more devices in the system. To account for the Doppler shifts, the UE may receive a Doppler shift measurement configuration to use for estimating one or more Doppler shift parameters associated with one or more reference signals transmitted from the one or more transmission reception points (TRPs). The measurement configuration may include a measurement restriction parameter which indicates a number of durations that the UE may use to estimate the Doppler shift parameters. The UE may generate and transmit a measurement report for the estimated Doppler shift parameters according to a determined reporting accuracy and granularity.
