COMPOSITE FIBER CAPABLE OF CHANGING COLORS BY VARIOUS EXTERNAL STIMULI AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17994871 titled 'COMPOSITE FIBER CAPABLE OF CHANGING COLORS BY VARIOUS EXTERNAL STIMULI AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The present disclosure is about a composite fiber that can change color in response to external stimuli such as heat, electrical signals, and mechanical stimuli. This is achieved by filling a hollow elastic fiber with a thermochromic pigment and an elastic polymer, and then filling the hollow with a liquid metal. The fiber also includes a metal wire inserted into the liquid metal and a stopper to seal the end of the fiber.

  • The composite fiber is capable of changing color in response to various external stimuli.
  • It is made by filling a hollow elastic fiber with a thermochromic pigment and an elastic polymer.
  • The hollow of the fiber is then filled with a liquid metal.
  • The fiber also includes a metal wire inserted into the liquid metal and a stopper to seal the end of the fiber.

Potential Applications

  • Textiles and clothing that change color based on temperature or other stimuli.
  • Smart materials for use in sensors or actuators.
  • Decorative or artistic applications where color-changing properties are desired.

Problems Solved

  • Provides a simple and efficient way to create a composite fiber that can change color in response to external stimuli.

Benefits

  • Versatile and customizable color-changing properties.
  • Can be easily incorporated into existing manufacturing processes.
  • Provides a unique and visually appealing feature to products and materials.

Original Abstract Submitted

The present disclosure relates to a composite fiber capable of discoloration, and more particularly, to a composite fiber capable of discoloration by various external stimuli such as heat, electrical signals, mechanical external stimuli, etc. by filling a hollow of an elastic hollow fiber containing a thermochromic pigment and an elastic polymer with a liquid metal, and a manufacturing method thereof. The composite fiber capable of discoloration according to the present disclosure includes: a hollow fiber containing a thermochromic pigment and an elastic polymer, a liquid metal filled in the hollow of the elastic hollow fiber, a metal wire having one end inserted into the liquid metal and the other end exposed to the outside, and a stopper connected to seal the end of the elastic hollow fiber.
