METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CELL RESELECTION IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17994157 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CELL RESELECTION IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The present disclosure describes an apparatus and method for cell reselection in a wireless communication system. The method involves determining if a User Equipment (UE) is in an inactive mode supported by a serving cell and detecting a trigger for reselection of the serving cell while the UE is in the inactive mode. Based on this detection, a plurality of neighboring cells that can be connected to the UE are identified. From these neighboring cells, a first cell that supports the inactive mode of the UE is selected for connection.

  • The invention is about a method for a UE to reselect a serving cell in a wireless communication system.
  • The method includes determining if the UE is in an inactive mode supported by the serving cell.
  • If a trigger for reselection is detected while the UE is in the inactive mode, a plurality of neighboring cells available for connection are identified.
  • The method further involves selecting a neighboring cell that supports the inactive mode of the UE for connection.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems, such as cellular networks, to improve cell reselection for User Equipment.
  • It can enhance the efficiency and reliability of wireless communication by allowing UEs to seamlessly switch between cells.

Problems Solved

  • In wireless communication systems, UEs may need to reselect a serving cell due to various reasons, such as signal degradation or congestion.
  • Existing methods for cell reselection may not consider the inactive mode of the UE, leading to inefficient or unreliable reselection.
  • This invention solves the problem by providing a method that takes into account the inactive mode of the UE and selects a neighboring cell that supports this mode for connection.

Benefits

  • The method described in this patent application improves the overall performance of wireless communication systems by enabling efficient and reliable cell reselection.
  • By considering the inactive mode of the UE, the invention ensures that the selected neighboring cell can support the UE's specific requirements.
  • This technology enhances the user experience by minimizing disruptions during cell reselection and maintaining a seamless connection.

Original Abstract Submitted

The present disclosure relates to an apparatus and method for cell reselection in a wireless communication system. The method comprises: determining whether a User Equipment (UE) is in an inactive mode supported by a serving cell and detecting a trigger for reselection of the serving cell for the UE, while the UE is in the inactive mode. The method further comprises identifying, based on the detection, a plurality of neighbouring cells available for being connected to the UE. The method also comprises selecting a first cell, from among the plurality of the neighbouring cells, that supports the inactive mode of the UE, for connecting with the UE.
