HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17988673 titled 'HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a hybrid electric vehicle that includes an engine, two motor-generators, and a controller. The controller can operate the vehicle in different modes, including an EV mode using one motor-generator, a second EV mode using both motor-generators, or a series mode using the engine's power generation.

  • The vehicle can operate in different modes depending on the power requirements and conditions.
  • The controller compares the vehicle's speed with a reference speed when the engine is off.
  • If the vehicle's speed is below the reference speed, the controller activates the second EV mode for efficient driving.

Potential Applications

  • Hybrid electric vehicles
  • Automotive industry
  • Transportation sector

Problems Solved

  • Efficient power management in hybrid electric vehicles
  • Optimal utilization of motor-generators and engine power
  • Enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions

Benefits

  • Improved fuel efficiency
  • Reduced emissions
  • Enhanced driving performance and control
  • Optimal power management for different driving conditions

Original Abstract Submitted

Disclosed is a hybrid electric vehicle comprising an engine configured to generate power by burning a fuel, first and second motor-generators configured to generate power or assist the engine, and a controller. The controller may be configured to set an operation of a first EV mode using the second motor-generator, a second EV mode using the first and second motor-generators, or a series mode of driving the second motor-generator by using power generation of the engine, compare a speed of the vehicle with a reference speed based on that the engine is in an off state, and may be configured to perform a control so that the vehicle drives in the second EV mode when the speed of the vehicle is less than the reference speed.
