PRINTING SYSTEM, PRINTING DEVICE, AND CONTROL METHOD FOR PRINTING SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17983672 titled 'PRINTING SYSTEM, PRINTING DEVICE, AND CONTROL METHOD FOR PRINTING SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a printing system where a client terminal and a printing device communicate using an Internet Printing Protocol (IPP). The client terminal displays storage options for printing jobs based on the printing device's capabilities, allows the user to select a storage destination, and sends a storage request to the printing device. The printing device responds to the client terminal's inquiry about its capabilities, including information about storage regions, and stores the printing job in the designated storage region when a storage request is received.

  • The system includes a client terminal and a printing device.
  • They communicate using an Internet Printing Protocol (IPP).
  • The client terminal displays storage options for printing jobs based on the printing device's capabilities.
  • The user can select a storage destination for the printing job.
  • The client terminal sends a storage request to the printing device.
  • The printing device responds to the client terminal's inquiry about its capabilities, including information about storage regions.
  • The printing device stores the printing job in the designated storage region when a storage request is received.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be used in various printing systems, such as office printers, commercial printing services, and print-on-demand services.
  • It can be implemented in both standalone printing devices and networked printing systems.

Problems Solved

  • Simplifies the process of selecting and storing printing jobs by providing storage options based on the printing device's capabilities.
  • Allows users to easily designate a storage destination for their printing jobs.
  • Ensures efficient storage and retrieval of printing jobs in the printing device.

Benefits

  • Streamlines the printing process by providing a user-friendly interface for selecting storage destinations.
  • Reduces the chances of printing jobs being lost or misplaced by allowing users to specify storage regions.
  • Improves overall efficiency and organization in printing systems by enabling targeted storage of printing jobs.

Original Abstract Submitted

In a printing system including a client terminal and a printing device including one or more storage regions for storing printing jobs, the client terminal and the printing device communicating with each other using an IPP, the client terminal displays a candidate for a storage destination of a printing job corresponding to information indicating a storage region included in a response of printing capability which is received from the printing device, designates a storage region corresponding to a storage destination selected by a user, and transmits a storage request for the printing job to the printing device. The printing device returns a response to an inquiry of the printing capability, which is received from the client terminal, inclusive of the information indicating the storage region, and stores the printing job in a designated storage region in a case where the storage request for the printing job including information for designating the storage region of the printing job has been received from the client terminal.
