DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17982889 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device that can display different images on different areas of the display panel in different modes. It includes a data driver, a scan driver, and a light emitting driver.

  • The display panel has a first display area and a second display area.
  • In the first mode, the display panel shows a first image on both the first and second display areas.
  • In the second mode, the display panel shows a second image only on the first display area.
  • The light emitting driver controls the emission of light from the display areas.
  • In the first mode, the light emitting driver activates emission control signals for both the first and second display areas.
  • In the second mode, during a first partial frame, the light emitting driver activates emission control signals for the second display area.
  • In the second mode, during a plurality of second partial frames, the light emitting driver keeps the emission control signals for the second display area in a deactivated state.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Mobile devices with dual display areas, where different content can be shown simultaneously.
  • Advertising displays that can switch between showing a single image and multiple images.
  • Gaming devices that can display different information on different parts of the screen.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Allows for more versatile display capabilities by enabling different images on different areas of the display panel.
  • Provides flexibility in displaying content based on different modes or user preferences.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced user experience with the ability to display different content simultaneously.
  • Improved efficiency in power consumption by deactivating emission control signals for unused display areas.
  • Increased versatility in displaying content for various applications and user preferences.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes a display panel, a data driver, a scan driver, and a light emitting driver. The display panel includes a first display area and a second display area. The display panel displays a first image on the first display area and the second display area in a first mode, and displays a second image on the first display area in a second mode. The light emitting driver activates emission control signals applied to the first display area and the second display area in the first mode. The light emitting driver activates emission control signals applied to the second display area during a first partial frame in the second mode, and maintains the emission control signals applied to the second display area in a deactivation state during a plurality of second partial frames in the second mode.
