DRIVING SUPPORT DEVICE FOR VEHICLE, DRIVING SUPPORT METHOD FOR VEHICLE, AND A NON-TRANSITORY COMPUTER-READABLE STORAGE MEDIUM STORING A PROGRAM FOR CAUSING A COMPUTER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17980251 titled 'DRIVING SUPPORT DEVICE FOR VEHICLE, DRIVING SUPPORT METHOD FOR VEHICLE, AND A NON-TRANSITORY COMPUTER-READABLE STORAGE MEDIUM STORING A PROGRAM FOR CAUSING A COMPUTER

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a driving support system that automatically decelerates a vehicle without the driver using the brake pedal when it detects the driver's intention to turn at an intersection. The system continues the deceleration control even if the direction indicator stops operating, but ends the control if the indicator remains inactive for a predetermined time period.

  • The driving support system executes automatic deceleration control for turning vehicles at intersections.
  • It detects a specific condition indicating the driver's intention to turn.
  • The system continues the deceleration control even if the direction indicator stops operating.
  • The control is ended if the direction indicator remains inactive for a predetermined time period.

Potential Applications

  • Driving support systems in vehicles
  • Intersection safety systems

Problems Solved

  • Ensures safe deceleration for turning vehicles at intersections
  • Addresses situations where the direction indicator may malfunction or be turned off prematurely

Benefits

  • Improved safety at intersections
  • Reduces the risk of accidents during turns
  • Provides automated support for drivers in complex traffic situations

Original Abstract Submitted

A driving support ECU () of a driving support device () executes automatic deceleration control for decelerating a vehicle () without a driver operating a brake pedal () when it is determined that a specific condition indicating that the driver intends to turn the vehicle () to the right or left at an intersection present in front of the vehicle () is satisfied. When a direction indicator () stops operating during execution of the automatic deceleration control, the driving support ECU () continues the automatic deceleration control until a predetermined time period elapses from a time point at which the direction indicator () stops operating, and ends the automatic deceleration control when the direction indicator () continues to stop operating from when the direction indicator () stops operating until the predetermined time period elapses.
