IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17975701 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a patent application related to an image forming apparatus. The invention involves a cleaning member that is positioned at a cleaning position when a process cartridge is attached to the apparatus.

  • The process cartridge is prevented from being attached to the apparatus by a stopper located at a first position.
  • The stopper is guided by a guide portion, which disables the attachment of the process cartridge to the apparatus.
  • When the cleaning member is at a retraction position during attachment of the process cartridge, a lever portion is pressed by a cleaning unit.
  • As a result, the stopper moves from the first position to a second position, enabling the process cartridge to be attached to the apparatus.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This technology can be applied in various types of image forming apparatus, such as printers, copiers, and multifunction devices.
  • It can be used in both home and office environments where image forming equipment is commonly used.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The invention solves the problem of preventing the attachment of a process cartridge to an image forming apparatus when the cleaning member is at the cleaning position.
  • It ensures that the process cartridge can only be attached when the cleaning member is at the retraction position, allowing for proper functioning of the apparatus.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The invention provides a simple and effective mechanism to prevent the attachment of the process cartridge when the cleaning member is in use.
  • It ensures that the cleaning process is completed before the process cartridge can be attached, avoiding potential damage or malfunction of the apparatus.

Original Abstract Submitted

In a case where a cleaning member is located at a cleaning position in attachment of a process cartridge to an image forming apparatus, a stopper located at a first position butts against the process cartridge guided in a direction of attachment by a guide portion such that the process cartridge is disabled from being attached to the image forming apparatus, and in a case where the cleaning member is located at a retraction position in attachment of the process cartridge to the image forming apparatus, a lever portion moves due to a press by a cleaning unit and the stopper moves from the first position to a second position such that the process cartridge is enabled to be attached to the image forming apparatus.
