ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR ADAPTIVELY CHANGING REPRESENTATION OF IMAGE ACCORDING TO CHANGE IN DISPLAY AREA OF ROLLABLE DISPLAY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17967122 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR ADAPTIVELY CHANGING REPRESENTATION OF IMAGE ACCORDING TO CHANGE IN DISPLAY AREA OF ROLLABLE DISPLAY

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an electronic device with a slidable display that can extend outside the housing. When the display area is extended, the device can identify this event and change the representation of the image based on the direction or speed of the extension.

  • The electronic device has a housing, memory, display, and processor.
  • The display can slide into or out of the housing.
  • The memory stores instructions for the device.
  • The processor executes the instructions and performs various functions.
  • The device can identify when the display area exposed outside the housing is extended.
  • The representation of the image displayed on the extended display area can be changed based on the direction or speed of the extension.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Mobile devices with sliding displays that can provide a larger screen area when extended.
  • Gaming devices that can adapt the game interface based on the direction or speed of the display extension.
  • E-readers or tablets that can adjust the layout of the content when the display area is extended.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Limited screen size on mobile devices can be addressed by extending the display area.
  • Users can have a more immersive gaming experience with a larger screen area.
  • Reading or viewing content on electronic devices can be more comfortable with a larger display area.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced user experience with a larger display area.
  • Flexibility in adapting the image representation based on the extension direction or speed.
  • Improved usability and comfort for various applications such as gaming or content consumption.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device according to an embodiment may comprise: a housing; a memory configured to store instructions; a display slidable into the housing or slidable out of the housing; and at least one processor, when the instructions are executed, configured to: identify, while an image is displayed in a display area of the display exposed outside the housing, an event in which the display area exposed outside the housing is extended; and change, in response to the identification, a representation of the image based on at least one of a direction in which the display area is extended or a speed at which the display area is extended, while the display area is extended.
