BRAKING CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17966018 titled 'BRAKING CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE

Simplified Explanation

The braking control system and method described in this patent application is designed for autonomous vehicles. It involves transmitting information about surrounding vehicles to a cloud-based system using sensors on each vehicle. The cloud system then determines when a specific vehicle needs to brake based on the distance between it and the leading vehicle. This information is then transmitted back to the specific vehicle, triggering the braking process. The system also checks for errors or failures in the vehicle's sensors to prevent accidents such as collisions with the leading vehicle.

  • The system uses autonomous traveling-related sensors to monitor surrounding vehicles.
  • Information about the surrounding vehicles is transmitted to a cloud-based system.
  • The cloud system determines when a specific vehicle needs to brake based on the distance with the leading vehicle.
  • A braking induction signal is transmitted to the specific vehicle to initiate the braking process.
  • The system checks for errors or failures in the vehicle's sensors to prevent accidents.

Potential Applications

  • Autonomous vehicles: This technology can be applied to autonomous vehicles to enhance their braking control system and improve safety on the roads.

Problems Solved

  • Collision prevention: The system helps prevent accidents by monitoring the distance between vehicles and initiating braking when necessary.
  • Sensor error detection: By checking for errors or failures in the vehicle's sensors, the system ensures that accurate information is used for decision-making.

Benefits

  • Enhanced safety: By transmitting information about surrounding vehicles and initiating braking when needed, the system helps prevent collisions and improve overall safety.
  • Improved efficiency: The cloud-based system allows for real-time monitoring and decision-making, optimizing the braking process and potentially reducing response times.
  • Error prevention: By checking for errors or failures in the vehicle's sensors, the system helps ensure that accurate data is used, reducing the risk of false braking signals or other safety issues.

Original Abstract Submitted

A braking control system and method for an autonomous vehicle, may transmit information on surrounding vehicles monitored by autonomous traveling-related sensors of each vehicle while the autonomous vehicles are traveling to the cloud, and transmit a braking induction signal to a specific vehicle when the cloud determines that a distance with a leading vehicle of the specific vehicle has reached a reference distance or less at which braking is required so that the specific vehicle may be braked, checking occurrence of an error or a failure of autonomous traveling-related sensors of a specific vehicle, and easily preventing the safety accidents such as collision with the leading vehicle.
