ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING FLEXIBLE DISPLAY AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING INPUT AREA FOR EXPANSION AND REDUCTION OF DISPLAY IN THE ELECTRONIC DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17964041 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING FLEXIBLE DISPLAY AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING INPUT AREA FOR EXPANSION AND REDUCTION OF DISPLAY IN THE ELECTRONIC DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

An electronic device with a flexible display that can slide in different directions. It has a processor that can identify when the display is in a reduced state or an expanded state. In the reduced state, it can identify a specific area of the display as an input area and control the display to enter the expanded state based on input through that area. In the expanded state, it can identify a different area of the display as an input area and control the display to enter the reduced state based on input through that area.

  • Electronic device with a flexible display that can slide
  • Processor identifies reduced state or expanded state of the display
  • In reduced state, specific area of the display is identified as an input area
  • In expanded state, a different area of the display is identified as an input area
  • Control of the display state is based on input through the respective input areas

Potential Applications

  • Mobile phones with flexible displays that can be expanded for larger viewing area
  • Tablets with flexible displays that can be reduced for easier portability
  • E-readers with flexible displays that can be expanded for better reading experience

Problems Solved

  • Provides a more versatile and adaptable display experience
  • Allows for a larger viewing area without increasing the overall size of the device
  • Enhances portability by reducing the size of the device when not in use

Benefits

  • Improved user experience with a flexible and interactive display
  • Increased functionality and versatility of electronic devices
  • Enhanced portability and convenience for users

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device includes: a first housing, a second housing for accommodating the first housing to enable sliding of the first housing, a flexible display connected to the first housing, a slide driving unit for slidingly moving the first housing, and a processor. The processor identifies a reduced state where the flexible display is slid in a reduction direction or an expanded state where the flexible display is slid in an expansion direction, in the reduced state, identifies a first edge area of the flexible display as a first input area and controls the flexible display to enter the expanded state, based on an input through the first input area, and in the expanded state, identifies a second edge area of the flexible display as a second input area and controls the flexible display to enter the reduced state, based on an input through the second input area.
