FOCUSING APPARATUS, IMAGE PICKUP APPARATUS, FOCUSING METHOD, AND STORAGE MEDIUM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17963331 titled 'FOCUSING APPARATUS, IMAGE PICKUP APPARATUS, FOCUSING METHOD, AND STORAGE MEDIUM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a focusing apparatus that can determine whether an object is moving and adjust the focus accordingly. Here are the key points:

  • The apparatus includes a determination unit that determines if an object is moving and a focusing unit that adjusts the focus based on the determination.
  • Before any user operation, the determination unit uses a first threshold to determine if the object is moving.
  • After a user operation, the determination unit switches to a second threshold, different from the first, to determine if the object is moving.
  • The focusing unit performs continuous focusing if the determination unit determines the object is moving before any user operation.
  • If the determination unit determines the object is moving after a user operation, the focusing unit performs a first focusing, followed by a second focusing.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Photography and videography equipment that can automatically adjust focus based on the movement of the subject.
  • Surveillance systems that can track moving objects and maintain focus on them.
  • Autonomous vehicles that can adjust focus on objects in their surroundings.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Ensures accurate focus on moving objects, improving the quality of images or videos.
  • Reduces the need for manual focus adjustments, saving time and effort.
  • Enables automated tracking of moving objects, enhancing surveillance or autonomous systems.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved image and video quality by maintaining focus on moving objects.
  • Enhanced user experience by reducing the need for manual focus adjustments.
  • Increased efficiency and accuracy in surveillance or autonomous systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

A focusing apparatus includes a determination unit configured to determine whether an object is a moving object, and a focusing unit configured to perform focusing using information on driving of the focus lens generated based on the focus detecting signal in response to an operation of an operation unit. The determination unit determines whether the object is the moving object, using a first threshold before the operation of the operation unit, and using a second threshold different from the first threshold after the operation of the operation unit. The focusing unit performs first focusing that continuously performs the focusing when the determination unit determines that the object is the moving object before the operation of the operation unit, and performs the first focusing when the determination unit determines that the object is the moving object after performing second focusing that performs the focusing once.
