ELECTRONIC APPARATUS AND ACCESSORY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17961110 titled 'ELECTRONIC APPARATUS AND ACCESSORY

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an electronic apparatus with an accessory shoe for attaching accessories. The accessory shoe has multiple contacts, including an attachment detection contact, a power supply contact, and a first reference potential contact. When an accessory is attached, the attachment detection contact becomes the reference potential. The attachment detection contact is positioned next to the power supply contact, while the first reference potential contact is placed on the other side, outside the arrangement of contacts.

  • The electronic apparatus has an accessory shoe for detachably attaching accessories.
  • The accessory shoe has multiple contacts arranged in a row.
  • The contacts include an attachment detection contact, a power supply contact, and a first reference potential contact.
  • When an accessory is attached, the attachment detection contact becomes the reference potential.
  • The attachment detection contact is positioned next to the power supply contact, while the first reference potential contact is placed on the other side, outside the arrangement of contacts.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be used in various electronic devices that require detachable accessories, such as cameras, smartphones, or audio equipment.
  • It can simplify the attachment and detachment process of accessories, making it more user-friendly and efficient.

Problems Solved

  • The arrangement of contacts in the accessory shoe provides a clear and straightforward detection of accessory attachment.
  • The use of a reference potential contact helps ensure proper electrical connection and compatibility between the accessory and the electronic apparatus.

Benefits

  • The simplified attachment process saves time and effort for users.
  • The clear detection of accessory attachment reduces the risk of connection errors or damage to the electronic apparatus.
  • The proper electrical connection and compatibility ensure optimal performance and functionality of the attached accessory.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic apparatus includes an accessory shoe via which an accessory is to be detachably attached to the electronic apparatus. The accessory shoe includes a plurality of contacts that is electrically connectable to the accessory and arranged in a row, and include an attachment detection contact, a power supply contact, and a first reference potential contact that is connected to a reference potential. A potential of the attachment detection contact becomes the reference potential in a case where the accessory is attached to the electronic apparatus. The attachment detection contact is disposed on one of both sides of the power supply contact, and the first reference potential contact is disposed on another side. The first reference potential contact is disposed outside the power supply contact in an arrangement direction of the plurality of contacts.
