INDICATION OF TONE SUPPORT VIA FORMAT SPECIFIER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17958165 titled 'INDICATION OF TONE SUPPORT VIA FORMAT SPECIFIER

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a patent application for a device that receives a SIP message with an SDP offer for a communication session, reads the parameters to determine the type of data to process, and sends an SDP answer accordingly.

  • The device receives a SIP message with an SDP offer for a communication session.
  • The SDP offer includes a parameter indicating the type of data to be processed (TTY data, audio data, or both).
  • The device reads the parameter and sends an SDP answer with a parameter indicating its processing capabilities.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various communication systems where the processing of different types of data (such as TTY data and audio data) is required.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of efficiently processing different types of data in communication sessions based on the capabilities of the receiving device.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved compatibility and efficiency in communication sessions by ensuring that data is processed correctly based on the capabilities of the device.

Potential Commercial Applications

One potential commercial application of this technology could be in telecommunication systems that require the processing of different types of data in communication sessions.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be existing systems or methods for negotiating and processing different types of data in communication sessions.

Unanswered Questions

Original Abstract Submitted

A device receives a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message containing a Session Description Protocol (SDP) offer for a communications session from a first endpoint. The SDP offer includes a first parameter indicating whether the communications session will include media encoding TTY data, audio data, or both TTY data and audio data. The device reads the first parameter and sends an SDP answer including a second parameter indicating whether the device is configured to process media encoding TTY data, audio data, or both TTY data and audio data.
