IMAGE PROCESSING SYSTEM AND IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17954494 titled 'IMAGE PROCESSING SYSTEM AND IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an image processing system that uses multiple cameras to capture video data of vehicles. The system includes processors that analyze the video data to identify a target vehicle based on its license plate number and other vehicle information.

  • The system includes a first camera that captures images of vehicles, specifically focusing on the license plate of the target vehicle.
  • A second camera captures images of the traveling vehicles from a different angle.
  • The processors acquire video data from both cameras and analyze it to identify the target vehicle.
  • The target vehicle is selected based on its license plate number, which is matched with the number of the target vehicle in the first video data.
  • The system then identifies the target vehicle in the second video data using other information obtained from the target vehicle selected in the first video data.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Law enforcement agencies can use this system for automated license plate recognition and tracking of vehicles.
  • Parking management systems can utilize this technology to monitor and identify vehicles in parking lots.
  • Toll collection systems can benefit from this technology by automatically identifying vehicles and charging tolls.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The system eliminates the need for manual identification and tracking of vehicles, saving time and effort.
  • It improves accuracy in identifying the target vehicle by using multiple sources of information.
  • The system can handle different angles and perspectives of vehicle images, enhancing the reliability of identification.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Increased efficiency in vehicle identification and tracking processes.
  • Improved accuracy in identifying target vehicles, reducing errors and false identifications.
  • Enhanced security and surveillance capabilities in various applications.

Original Abstract Submitted

An image processing system includes a first camera configured to image vehicles including a target vehicle from a first angle at which a license plate of the target vehicle is imaged, a second camera configured to image the traveling vehicles from a second angle, and one or more processors configured to acquire first video data captured by the first camera and second video data captured by the second camera, select, as the target vehicle, a vehicle with a number that matches a number of the target vehicle from among the vehicles included in the first video data, identify the target vehicle from among the vehicles included in the second video data based on target vehicle information other than the number of the target vehicle. The target vehicle information is obtained from the target vehicle selected in the first video data.
