SYSTEM AND METHOD OF TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING SYSTEM INFORMATION BY REDUCED CAPABILITY UES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17953830 titled 'SYSTEM AND METHOD OF TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING SYSTEM INFORMATION BY REDUCED CAPABILITY UES

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method performed by a reduced capability user equipment (redcap UE) in a wireless communication system. Here are the key points:

  • The method involves the redcap UE acquiring a system information block 1 (SIB1) that contains information about the first initial uplink bandwidth part (BWP) on a normal uplink (NUL) carrier.
  • The redcap UE identifies whether the SIB1 includes first configuration information that is used to request a system information (SI) message.
  • The redcap UE also identifies whether a second initial uplink BWP is configured on the NUL carrier based on the SIB1.
  • If the SIB1 includes the first configuration information and the criteria to select the NUL carrier are met, the second initial uplink BWP is configured for the redcap UE.
  • The redcap UE then starts a random access procedure to request the SI message in the second initial uplink BWP on the NUL carrier, using a preamble resource specified in the first configuration information.
  • Finally, the redcap UE acquires the requested SI message.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This method can be applied in wireless communication systems where reduced capability user equipment (redcap UE) is used.
  • It can be used to efficiently configure and request system information (SI) messages in such systems.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The method solves the problem of efficiently configuring and requesting system information (SI) messages for reduced capability user equipment (redcap UE) in a wireless communication system.
  • It ensures that the appropriate initial uplink bandwidth parts (BWP) are configured and used for the redcap UE.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The method allows for efficient utilization of the available bandwidth in a wireless communication system.
  • It ensures that the reduced capability user equipment (redcap UE) receives the necessary system information (SI) messages in a timely manner.
  • The method improves the overall performance and reliability of the wireless communication system.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method performed by a reduced capability user equipment (redcap UE) in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes acquiring a system information block 1 (SIB1 ) including information on a first initial uplink bandwidth part (BWP) on a normal uplink (NUL) carrier, identifying whether the SIB1 includes first configuration information used for the redcap UE to request a system information (SI) message, identifying whether a second initial uplink BWP for the redcap UE is configured on the NUL carrier based on the SIB1, in a case that the SIB1 includes the first configuration information for the redcap UE, the second initial uplink BWP for the redcap UE is configured, and criteria to select the NUL carrier is met, starting a random access procedure for requesting the SI message in the second initial uplink BWP for the redcap UE on the NUL carrier, based on a preamble resource in the first configuration information, and acquiring the requested SI message.
